Civil Registration
Dingle Registrar's District
1864-1870

Page 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

This list of marriages recorded in the Civil Registration of Marriages in the Dingle Registrar's District, within the Dingle PLU (Poor Law Union), Corkaguiny Barony, is for the period 1864-1870.

Thanks to John Willoughby for transcribing and contributing this data.

John notes that, as closely as possible, the information here appears as in the original record. This includes the English spelling for occupations, such as "labourer". He adds that when this data was recorded, the word spinster meant two things. "First, it was an occupation and was derived from the spinning of flax, wool, and other fibers in the home by young ladies. Secondly, it was later applied to the ladies who had not yet married and who continued to spin in their homes. There are many instances in the original records where the marital status and occupation both reflect "Spinster". To clarify the occupation, I have entered "Spinner" which, I believe, more clearly describes what the ladies were doing."

Many names in the Witness column recur. That is because so few people could read or write and the priests used literate clerks to verify that the information was correct.

A question mark indicates indecipherable or incomplete information.

Dates are shown as day/month/year.
