George Alexander, Esq.. fifth son of John Alexander, Esq., of Milford House, in the county of Carlow, has been called to the Bar.

A very large and enthusiastic meeting of the Inhabitants of the district met in the chapel-yard of Ballon on Sunday, January 9th. The object was to establish a branch of the Irish National Land League, to be known henceforth by the name of the Ballon and Rathoe Branch. The officers appointed pro tem. were-The Rev. John Kehoe, P.P., president; the Rev. Simon McWey, C C., vlce-president; Mr. James Clowry, treasurer; Messrs. P. Kelly and T. Doyle, hon. secs.

The Carlow Patriots.

A meeting of the committee to erect a monument to the Carlow Heroes of '98 was held at the Racquet, Carlow, Ireland, on Monday evening, August 22nd, Mr. J P. Clowry, presiding. Mr. Doris handed the secretary a letter from Mr. P. J. Conlon, who was unable to attend, containing the following letter and cheque value $75 or £15 from Mr. Dolan, New York

Dear Sir,-Please find enclosed a cheque for the sum of $75, amount collected up to date as the first instalment for the Carlow Graigue Monument. I am deeply grateful to all those good and true Irishmen and women who so generously contributed towards erecting a monument over the Carlow Heroes of '98.

John J. Dolan.

A warm vote of thanks to Mr. Dolan, and also to the sympathizers with the movement in America for their generous subscriptions was, on the motion of Mr. Kelly, seconded by Mr. Byrne, unanimously adopted, and the secretary was instructed to convey same.
