EXTRACTS FROM OLD PARISH REGISTERS - FETHARD

"For the information of future incumbents, there are thirty 
acres (which pay tithes to the parish of Feathard) the 
property of the COLCLOUGH family, all the rest is the LOFTUS 
property. These thirty acres were sold by a Martin SINNOTT 
to Sir Thomas COLCLOUGH in the year 1613; I saw the deed of 
sale in the hands of Mr. John COLCLOUGH, on Tuesday ye 11th 
of October, 1796, at Tintern Abbey (the boundaries of these 
thirty acres is then given).

              Signed    John KENNEDY Minister of Feathard.

Dated October 19th, 1796."

The first entry is "Feathard April 9th day 1798."  Also A 
Vestry Book for the Union of Feathard commencing in the year 
1781 (Signed),

'The Vestry for 1798 was held on the 1st of May; the heading 
is filled in by the Revd. John KENNEDY, but no churchwardens 
or others appear to have been present, so no business was 
done.  This is not to be wondered at from the state of the 
county at that time.'

'The Clerk's salary at this time was £15.
'The Sexton's salary at the time was £2.
'1825.--Church ordered to be repainted.
'Captain Richard MOORE signs this year, and Edward LUMSDEN 
and others.
'Cleaning the churchyard.'

This forms a regular item in the expenses.  Would that it 
did so in other parishes.

'John ALLEN, churchwarden, 1826.
'1827.--Money provided this year "for building and 
completing the ...churchyard wall, and £1. 1s. for a parish 
register."
'April 8th, 1827.--Proceedings signed first time by
                              "C. W. DOYNE, Minister."

'Gravelling walk and cutting weeds.
'1818.--Alexander ALCOCK'S signature continues to this date.
'Oct., 1827.--A proposition was made for the incumbent to 
receive £330 ...annually, as a composition for the tithes of 
the parish under an Act ..4 George IV.
'Coffins for the poor form an item in the annual expenses.

'May 6, 1832.--A special vestry called "to appoint officers 
of health, ...and to raise a sum off the parish for 
providing against contagion ...and procuring medicine and 
other necessary remedies to remove it in ...case it should 
occur."'

This refers to the epidemic of cholera which visited Ireland 
this year.

Esq., of Fethard; Surgeon H.H. HEWESTON, of Fethard; and Mr. 
Thomas CLOONEY, of Dungulph, were appointed officers of 
health.
'1834.--March 31.--Proceedings signed by William ARCHDALL, 
curate. [April 1st, 1839, is the last vestry meeting 
recorded in this volume.]
