POWER

Will of Nicholas POWER, Kilballyquilty, Co. Waterford, dated 
11.6.1657:- to be buried with his ancestors in Rathcormack, 
mentions wife Eleanor alias BOURKE, son Walter, grandaughter 
Elinor PRENDERGAST nephew Michael FITSEDMUND, brother John. 
Proved by Walter POWER, Ballynaven (?) Grandson Richard 
POWER mentioned. 9.11.1657 Prerogative.

Will of Patrick POWER, sick on board H.M.S. Seahorse at 
Deal, Kent, dated 12.6.1743:- leaves all pay etc. to his 
father John POWER and brother Geoffry POWER, Yeomen, Co. 
Waterford share and share alike.

Will of Patrick POWER of Knockaderry, dated 25.6.1737:- "To 
son Peirse two- thirds of my interest in lands and leases of 
Bridgetown, Ballyneale, Ballyhosty and Ballyquin and 
two-thirds of cattle and stock on said lands, the third to 
my dear wife, first taking 20 cows for my mother-in-law Joan 
BUTLER alias TOBIN. To my son Edmund, two-thirds of my 
interest in Carriganure and Coolfin, and two thirds of stock 
thereon. My wife and son perfect a lease to Ed. POWER of 
Carriganure of such part of said lands as he holds of me at 
£42 a year. Nicholas LONERGAN of Carriganure to be forgiven 
£30. Tom my son David my interest in Carrigphilip and 
Kirnalish and stock thereon, reserving one-third for my 
wife. To my sons Thomas and Nichols my interest in 
Kilballyquilty and stock, less one- third for my wife. To my 
daughter Catherine £300 and £60 worth of stock. My interest 
in the lands of Knockaderry for the support of my children 
for nine years, and then to my son Nicholas, reserving 
one-third for my wife. To my four sons Peirse, Edmund, David 
and Thomas my interest in the lands and leases of Teplyvrick 
? and Lisnageeragh, Shanakill and Kilmulin. To my son Thomas 
my interest in leases and stock of Kilmovee, reserving 
one-third for my wife. To my mother Catherine POWER alias 
KENNEDY £4 a year for life. To my sister Mary FITZGERALD 
alias POWER 20 barrels of oats. To my brother Maurice POWER 
two strippers bought from William POWER, Woodstown. £15 to 
poor widows of the parishes of Newcastle and Kilmeaden, 
Peirse POWER of Knockaderry, and my wife Alicia POWER alias 
BUTLER. Proved by Alicia POWER, wife and executor, 25.4.1737

Will of Maurice POWER of Tyroe, Co. Waterford, dated 
2.4.1772:- "To my wife Ellen, Knokacroly and Churchtownhill 
for life, and in case she dies and the fool survives her, he 
is to get £10 a year. To my well-beloved son John POWER 
Lahardan, Tyroe, and Kylenaracy. To my daughter Ellen POWER 
£300, to my daughter Anastasia £50, my daughter Jenny £30, 
my daughter Kate £4. My son John to get at his mother's 
death and to pay the fool £10 a year if he lives 
(Knocknacroly and Churchtownhill) Proved by widow 1.6.1775. 
Executors wife and son John. Prerogative.

Will of Maurice POWER of Tyroe, Co. Waterford, dated 
11.3.1774:- 1/- each to his sons John and Michael, all the 
rest to his daughter Mary POWER. Proved. 29.6.1791

POWER Will of Thomas POWER of Coolfin, Gentleman, dated 
15.4.1791:- "To Joseph POWER of Knockaderry my interest in 
Coolfin with stock, cattle and furniture, also the assets of 
my sister Catherine late of Georgestown, now in the hands of 
my brother Nicholas POWER of Ballinakill, and also the 
furniture of my lodgings in Waterford City. I appoint Joseph 
POWER of Knockaderry and John KENNEDY OF Whitestown my 
executors. Proved 3.5.1791

Will of Peirse POWER of the City of Waterford, Gentleman, 
dated 8.5.1795:- eldest daughter, Alice Farrell widow of 
Michael FARRELL, (d. 15.11.1811) £30 a year: her son Edmond 
FARRELL £200; second daughter Mary Ann POWER, wife of Joseph 
POWER £20 cash. third daughter Catherine POWER, spinster, 
now in France £57 a year; fourth daughter Anastasia RONAYNE, 
wife of William RONAYNE £20 cash, and £20 each to her 
children living at my death; rest to my son Patrick. 
Executors:- son Patrick and son in law William RONAYNE.

Will of James POWER, Vintner of the City of Waterford, dated 
20.11.1793:- wife Alice POWER, house and house called 
Flanagan's to be sold and the proceeds to wife and daughters 
Ellinor and Johanna; sons John and Francis £50 each; 
daughters Ellinor and Johanna £300 each; son Matthew 1/-; 
Brewery, malthouse, and three fields at Gallows Road to be 
sold and the proceeds to be divided between the legatees 
except Matthew. Probate 27.4.1798 to Revd. John POWER, son 
and legatee others renouncing.

Will of Johanna POWER alias Sheridan of Stonehouse, dated 
11.4.1797 widow: "Farm of Stonehouse to my son Jeffry as 
held by his father Edmund POWER; £40 to my daughter Nora; 
£40 each to my step-daughters Ellen and Mary POWER;

Will of Nicholas POWER of Ballinakill, dated 22.6.1794:- to 
daughter Maria POWER £4000 on marriage with the consent of 
her mother; Tybrough_ey, Kncokaderry, Sleady and Carriganure 
to eldest son, Patrick; Ballinakill, large warehouse on 
Quay, Waterford and Lecaun Co. Wexford to second son 
Nicholas; marriage settlement of £500 to wife confirmed; 
£100 a year for ten years for education and support of two 
sons and £300 a year each until they reach twenty-one. If 
sons die, property to go to daughter Maria, and if she die, 
to nephew Patrick POWER for life, and then to his heirs and 
then to the eldest son of nephew-in-law William RONAYNE. 
(1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. sons in succession). To natural son 
Patrick £100 at fifteen to put him apprentice, and £15 a 
year while there; to natural daughter Kate £25 on marriage. 
To executors nephew Patrick POWER and nephew-in-law William 
RONAYNE £50 a year each until the children reach twenty-one. 
Thomas FITZGERALD of Snowhaven, guardian to the children.

everything subject to legacies. "I wish that my nephew John 
POWER, son to my brother James should marry Alice NUGENT, my 
wife's niece; if they marry, they are to get one undivided 
half. To my brother Patrick POWER of Kilmacthomas £56:18:6. 
To my brother Thomas £42. To the children of my dear brother 
James £42. The £100 in the hands of Peirse POWER Esq. half

to his daughter Margaret RYAN £21, if her father-in-law John 
RYAN gives his son Michael RYAN, her husband £21; appoints 
his two nephews Edward KIRWAN of Whitestown and Patrick 
KIRWAN of Cumeen his executors. Proved 24.6.1801

Will of Walter POWER of Ballybrunnock, dated 28.2.1803:- to 
be buried in Clonegam with his father and mother; to sons 
Peirse and Nicholas Ballybrunnock and Carrigavantry with 
stock thereon; to wife £10 a year; to son John 1/-, to 
daughters Margaret and Mary 1/- each; mentions daughters 
Anne Anastasia and Catherine also; mentions niece Catherine

PORTER Will of John PORTER of Waterford but now living in 
the Parish of St. Martin in the Fields, Middlesex, dated 
1.3.1789:- mentions wife Isabella, son Thomas, daughter 
Hannah, grandfather Richard KEARNEY of Grantstown, uncle 
James KEARNEY of same. £150 to widow during widowhood, £100 
a year if she marry £2000 to daughter. Property to son 
Thomas and his heirs, and failing him to daughter, her 
husband to take the name of PORTER. £1000 each to brother 
and sister if the estate be clear of encumbrances before son

Will of Laurence GALWAY of Yougnal:- "to my son Patrick 
GALWAY 1/- as already provided for; to my grandson James 
GALWAY my watch; to my son James GALWAY all the rest. 
Administration to Patrick GALWAY eldest son as no executor

Will of James GALWAY, Cabinet-maker, Waterford:- wife 
Johanna GALWAY, sons Thomas M., James and John, dated 
6.8.1820 proved 28.12.1822 £600.

Will of James GALWAY, Merchant, Waterford:- £600 to wife 
Jane GALWAY alias GIBBONS, the rest between three children 
Patrick, Ellen and Mary; requests brother-in-law John POWER 
to continue business, dated 14.11.1829. Proved 9.3.1831 by

Waterford, died intestate to only son James Galway of said

HUTCHINSON

Will of John HUTCHINSON, dated 21.1.1794:- property in Co. 
Wexford and Waterford to wife Sarah, three daughters Ann 
HUTCHINSON, Elizabeth BLAIN, and Mary BARCRAFT; Co. Wexford 
to go to youngest son Samuel; Barronstrand St. to eldest 
daughter Ann; the rest equally between sons James, Joseph, 
Thomas, William and Samuel and three daughters aforesaid; 
executors son Samuel and son-in-law William BLAIN. Proved

26.7.1740:- mentions his brother Michael and Patrick, 
Merchants, Dungarvan, his brother in law John QUARRY of 
Knockane, Co. Waterford, his daughters Mary, Elizabet and 
Anne, an aunt in Dublin and an aunt in Waterford. Proved by

Will of Joseph RIVERS Ballinakill, dated 29.11.1797:- "As my 
sister Kate POWER has generously supported me and my father, 
mother and sister Anne since my father's failure in business 
and has promised to continue to do so, I leave her my 
leasehold interest in Lower Crobally, Tramore and everything 
else. (Ballygunnar Castle and two fields at Ballybricken 
held from John FITZGERALD, and for which he promised me a

entitled to a large arrear of interest under the will of

by my said husband and Henry O'BRIEN, late of Dublin, 
Linen-draper; legacy to House of Industry of poor females 
now building at Hennessy's Road under the direction of Miss 
Ellen POWER formerly of Patrick Street; everything else to

children; £40 a year to his daughter Alice; £20 to his 
brother Joseph or his child or children at his executor's 
discretion; £20 to his niece Mary RUSSELL of Dungarvan; £10 
to his niece Kate POWER; £10 to the child or children of his 
deceased sister Kate McDERMOTT of Cork; rent of two houses 
in Tramore: Tom POWER'S and Maurice WHELAN'S and (?), £20 
for the education of poor children in Tramore. Proved by 
Michael RIVERS of Carrick, son of the deceased and executor, 
28.12.1807

Will of Bartholomew of Tramore, >or Waterford< dated 
15.11.1806, :- to be buried in the vault of his uncle 
Bartholomew RIVERS in Dungarvan; debts incurred since June 
1793 to be paid in first instance; impeaches the conduct of 
the trustees to who he then conveyed his property: Robert 
DOBBYN, Simon NEWPORT, Humphrey MAY, Alexander WALLACE and 
Robert POWER, "only for their gross neglect for these 
thirteen years, there was ample to pay all my debts. Henry 
HAYDEN'S to me and to the bank were considerable. James 
KEARNEY of Waterford purchased in trust for me, but not 
discharged and other properties now held for me by Edward 
LEE. I leave and bequeath all my property to my beloved 
daughter Kate POWER alias RIVERS, subject to £70 a year for 
my daughter Ann RIVERS i.e. £40 out of LEE'S property and 
£30 in lieu of a like annuity bequethed to her by my 
granddaughter Maria POWER during my life. My clothes to my 
dear brother Thomas RIVERS of Dungarvan. I desire that my 
daughter Kate do reserve my dwelling-house in Green's Lane, 
Tramore, known as Green's House and all land and garden 
belonging thereto and furniture for her own use and
