1776, born Waterford 1756. He was punished two times - on 10 September 1777 for
'neglect of duty' and on 29 September 1777 for 'hitting a native'.)

Sign to the family Tomb of THOMAS FRANCIS MEAGHER
(N.B. In his younger years THOMAS was an Irish revolutionary, fighting for
Ireland's Independence, and was known as "MEAGHER of the Sword" due to his fiery
speeches. In 1852 he escaped to the United States, ending up in New York where
he studied law. At the commencement of the American Civil War he joined the US
Army. Following the Civil War he served as acting governor of the Montana
Territory. In 1867 he drowned in the Missouri River after falling from a
steamboat. His parents were THOMAS and ALICIA MEAGHER. His wife CATHERINE
MEAGHER who died in 1852 is buried in the family Tomb -- see text/photo number
33.)
