1737 MARRIAGE "CERTIFICATE" FOR WILLIAM VANCE AND ELIZABETH BACKHOUSE

         William VANCE of Doricreeny (Derrycreevy) in the
parish of  Clonfeacle and County of Tyrone And Elizabeth
BACKHOUSE of Grange in ye Parish and Counties aforesaid,
having declared their intentions of marriage with each other
in several publick meetings of ye people Called Quakers
whose proceedings therein after Deliberate Consideration
thereof Enquiry being made Concerning their Clearness from
all others, after Consent of parents & Relations Concerned ,
were Conf(r)onted unto by ye said meeting . . .

         Now this so as to Certifie whom it may Concern that
for ye first accomplishment of this said Institutions
according to God ordained ye said William Vance and
Elizabeth Beckhouse appeared in a publick Meeting of ye said
people mett together to worship God in their meeting house
Nigh Charlemount in ye said County upon ye... Eighteenth Day
of ye third month called May in year one thousand seven
hundred thirty & seven.  Whereas being Contracted ye said
William Vance taking ye said Elizabeth Backhous(e) by ye
hand did solomnly declare in manner as followeth: you are my
witness from this day that I take Elizabeth Backhous(e) to
be my wife promising with ye Lord('s) assistance to be unto
her a loving & faithful Husband until death separate us and
then and there ye said assembly ye said Elizabeth Backhouse
did Declare in like manner as followeth you are my Witness
this day that I take William Vance to be my Husband
promising with ye Lord('s) assistance to be unto him a
loving & faithful wife until death separate us.   And as a
further Confirmation thereof said William Vance and
Elizabeth did take of a pen and Subscribe their names as
husband and wife.  And they whose names are under written
Being in front with many More at the Solomnizing of their
said Marriage & subscription as aforesaid as witnesses have
set their hands ye day and year above written.
