SOME COUNTY TIPPERARY INQUESTS - 1846

A Return Of Inquests Taken By James Carroll, A Coroner For 
Tipperary County, Commencing The 15th June And Ending The 
1st Dec. 1846.

1. June 15th on Bernard Doyle, held at Carrigahorig, Parish 
of Terryglass. Verdict-died in consequence of being 
accidentally in the river. Dr. Jas.J. Stoney.

2. June 20th on Thomas Tehan, at Nenagh Goal, nenagh. 
Verdict-Comsumption on the 18th. Dr. O'Neil Quinn.

3. July 3rd. on Thomas Anylessy, at Cloughjordan, Parih of 
Moderenny, Lr. Ormond. Verdict-injuries of the body by 
falling on a pitch fork. Dr. T. Purefoy.

4. July 17th on William Hill, at Nenagh, Parish of Nenagh, 
Lr. Ormond. Verdict-Visitation of God. Dr. Francis Cahilan.

5. July 20th on Darby (Jeremiah) Lynch, at Garranbeg, Parish 
of Killoscully, Owney and Arra. Verdict-Sudden fit of 
apoplexy at Drumbane. 18th inst. Dr. Rd. Kennedy.

6. July 21st on Francis Terry, at Killeen, Parish of 
Loughkeen, Lr. Ormond. Verdict-Accidentally burned. Dr. 
James J. Stoney.

7. July 25th on Mary Ryan, at Portrue, Parish of Castletown, 
Owney and Arra. Verdict-Sudden fit caused by apoplexy. Dr. 
Ed. Kittson.

8. July 26th on Patrick Costello, at Killerane, Parish of 
Moderenny. Lr. Ormond. Verdict-Sudden fit of apoplexy on the 
morning of the 25th. Dr. Rd. Kennedy.

9. Aug. 3rd on Thomas Cooney, at Lorha, Parish of Lorha, Lr. 
Ormond.Verdict-Visitation of God on the morning of the 1st 
inst. Dr. Jas. W. Walsh.

10. Aug. 5th on Mary Stanley, at Commons of Carney, Parish 
of Kilbarron, Lr. Ormond. Verdict-Accidentally drowned on 
the 2nd. inst.

11. Aug. 20th on Owen Egan, at Nenagh, Nenagh Parish. 
Verdict-Accidentally drowned in a drain at Poulshesheree on 
the 19th inst. Dr. Ed Kittson.

12. Aug. 20th on a male child, at Coumparker, Parish of 
Youghal. Verdict-In consequence of the visition of God, 
before coming to this world, having been still born. Dr. Ed. 
Kittson. Post mortem examination.

13. Aug. 27th on James Connell, at Cloughjordan, Parish of 
Moderenny, Lr. Ormond. Verdict-Visitation of God on the 26th 
at Cloughjordan. Dr. Ed. Kittson.

14. Sept. 2nd. on James Clarke, at Nenagh Barracks, Parish 
of Nenagh. Lr. Ormond. Verdict-Gun shot wound inflicted by 
himself,on himself in the Barrack-Room of Nenagh. Dr. 
Montgomery Erwin.

15. Aug. 2nd. on Ann Flanery, at Nenagh, Parish of Nenagh. 
Upper Ormond, Verdict-Visitation of God. Dr. Ed. Kittson.

16. Sept 14th on John Hurley, at Carrigmadden, Parish of 
Youghal, Owney and Arra. Verdict-Accidentally falling of his 
house on the 13th inst. Dr. Ed. Kittson.

17. Sept 25th on Luke Cassidy, at Riverstown, Parish of 
Nenagh. Lower Ormond. Verdict-Found drowned. Dr. James 
Dempster.

18. Oct. 1st. on Wm. Latchford, at Bellview, Parish of 
Kilbarron, Lower Ormond. Verdict-Injuries of the head 
inflicted by a person or persons unknown. Dr. J. Dempster.

19. Oct. 2nd. on Michael Ryan, at Clohinch, Parish of 
Nenagh. Upper Ormond. Verdict-Injuries of the head inflicted 
with a tongs by Patrick Purcell. Dr. Ed. Kittson.

20. Oct. 13th on Michael Gaynor, at Ballyluskey, Parish of 
Ardcroney. Lr. Ormond. Verdict-Gun shot wound inflicted on 
his chest by person or persons unknown. Dr. J. Dempster.

21. Oct. 22nd. on Patrick Gleeson, at Toomevara, Parish of 
Annameadle, Upper Ormond. Verdict-Injuries inflicted on his 
head and body by person or persons unknown. Dr. Ed. Kittson.

22. Oct. 24th on Daniel Hayes, at Redwood. Parish of Lorha, 
Lower Ormond. Verdict-Visitation of God. Dr. James J. 
Stoney.

23. Oct. 26th on William Williams, at Ballylina, Parish of 
Ballingarry. Lower Ormond. Verdict-Injuries inflicted on his 
body by person or persons unknown. Dr. James. J. Stoney.

24. Nov. 5th on Margaret Corcoran, at Nenagh, Parish of 
Nenagh, Lower Ormond. Verdict-General state of debility 
brought on for the want of food.  Dr. Ed. Kittson.

25. Nov. 23rd. on Tim Corbett, at Ballimona, Parish of 
Finoe, Lower Ormond. Verdict-Injuries to the body by his 
clothes haveing accidentally taken fire. Dr. Ed. Kittson.

26. Nov.. 28th on John Ryan at Nenagh, Lower Ormond. 
Verdict-Visitation of God. Dr. Ed. Kittson.

Slievardagh. Dr. Michael Stokes. Verdict-Extreme Debility. 
common examination.

10th Dec. on Richard Hennessy, Mardyke, Parish of 
Killenaule. Dr. Michael Stokes. Verdict-Falling into a coal 
pit. Common examination.

11th Dec. on a female child, held in Kilcooley, Barony of 
Slievardagh. Doctor James Colcutt. Verdict-Visitation and 
not by injuries. Post mortem examination.

12th Dec. on Honor Dwyer, held at Thurles, Barony of 
Eliogarty, Doctor George Bradshaw. Visitation of God. Common 
examination.

15th Dec. on Michael Shanahan, held in Cullow, Parish of 
Rahealty, Barony of Eliogarty. Dr. George Bradshaw. 
Verdict-Falling into a dyke of water. Common examination. 
Fee 1 guinea.

22nd. Dec. on Denis Mcgrath, Held in Thurles. Doctor George 
Bradshaw. Verdict-Bursting a blood vessel. Common 
examination.

22nd Dec. on James Kitson, held in Thurles, Parish of 
Thurles, Barony of Eliograty, Dr. George Bradshaw. 
Verdict-disease of the heart. Common examination.

4th Jan. 1847 on Michael Commin, held in Thurles. Dr. George 
Bradshaw. Verdict-Being crushed between his cart and a wall. 
Post mortem examination. Fee. 2 guineas.

11th Jan. on William Dwyer, held in Forest, Parish of 
Templemore. Dr. Richard M. Foresyth. FVerdict-Gun shot, 
persons unknown. Fee 2 guineas.

13th Jan on Mary Wilson, Held in Roscrea, Barony of Ikerrin, 
Doctor Henry Powell, Verdict-Intoxication in the street of 
Roscrea.

19th Jan. on Michael Bollard, held in Buchinela, Parish of 
Ballingarry, Barony of Slievardagh. Dr. Wm. Fennelly. 
Verdict-Clothes taking fire.

21st Jan. on male infant, held in Barnane, Parish of 
Barnane, Barony of Ikerrin. Dr. George W. Pinchin. 
Verdict-Found dead in mothers bed. Post Mortem. Fee 2 
guineas.

23rd. Jan on Mary Hayes, held in Templemore. Barony of 
Eliogarty. Doctor Adam Birney. Verdict-Diarahea brought on 
by cold. Common examination. Fee 2 guineas.

25th Jan, on a girl unknown, held at Ballingarry, 
Slievardagh. Dr. Wm. Fennedlly. Verdict-Found drowned.  
Examination common. Fee 2 guineas.

27th Jan. on Margaret Common, held in Aughernamaine, Parish 
Ballystahan, Barony of Middlethird. Dr. George Bradshaw. 
Verdict-Disease of the heart.

30th Jan on  Michael Creed, held at Graigue, Parish of 
Moycarkey, Barony of Eliogarty. Dr. George Bradshaw. 
Verdict-Gun shot by himself. Post mortem. fee 2 guineas.

1st Feb on John Quinn, held at Loughmore, Parish of 
Loughmore, Barony of Eliogarty. Dr. Edmd. Kingsley. 
Verdict-Want of proper care.

3rd. Feb. on Thomas Gleeson, held at Lugh, Parish of Borris, 
Barony of Eliogarty. Doctor George Bradshaw. 
Verdict-Accidentally burned.

5th. Feb. on Michael McNamara, held at Upper Church, Baroney 
of Kilnemanagh. Dr. G.W.Pinchin. Verdict-Death from 
starvation.

17th. Feb. on Margaret Coonan, held at Hillsloom, Parish of 
Roscrea. Dr. Benjamin Powell. Verdict-Killed in a mill. 
Common examination.

18th. Feb. on Mary Quinan, Held at Gortnagoona, Parish of 
Killevenogue. Barony of Ikerrin. Dr. Ben. Powell. 
Verdict-Starvation.

19th. Feb. on Margaret Quinlan, Held at Roscrea, Barony of 
Ikerrin. Dr. Ben. Powell. Verdict-Suffocation.common 
examination. 1 guinea.

19th. Feb. on Mary Cahill, held at Roscrea, Barony of 
Ikerrin. Dr. Ben. Powell. Verdict-Suffocation.common 
examination. 1 guinea.

23rd. Feb. on Austin Clonton, held at Borrisoleigh, Parish 
of Glankeen, Barony of Kilnemanagh. Dr. Geo. W. Pinchin. 
Verdict-Disease of the heart. Common examination. Fee 2 
guineas.

23rd. Feb. on Thomas Dawson, held at Cooleen, Parish of 
Glankeen, Barony of Kilnemanagh. Dr. Geo.W.Pinchin. 
Verdict-Water on the chest. Post mortem examination. 2 
guineas. 5 miles 2s 6d. This 5 miles is the distance from 
Borrisoleigh.

I gave an order on the Treasurer, Ambrose Lane, esq. to Wm. 
Fennelly, for providing a coffin and burying a girl, a 
stranger. 10s. M. Cormack. Coroner.
