TEMPLEMORE PARISH, PART 1
    'EPITAPHS IN THE ANCIENT CHURCHYARD, &c.'

In the chancel, beginning at N.E. corner' :-
	
	'The Prior's tomb, dated 16-32.  There is no doubt that 
the space between the 6 and the 3 was left by the 
stonecutter on account of a flaw in the stone.  Anno (     ) 
precedes the 1632, the month apparently not being 
mentioned.'

"Erected by ..........KINSHELLA of Drom in memory of his 
brother Cornelius KINSHELLA who departed this life Oct. 8th, 
1838 aged 26 yrs."

"Here lies the body of Cornelius CAHILL, late of Rat 
(buried) who departed 12 of Feb [buried] &c."
________
"Erected by Philip Philip MEAGHER of Polough in memory of 
his wife Catherine MEAGHER alias DOWLING, who died Sept. 
10th, 1856, aged 43 yrs"

"Erected by William MAHER of Polough in memory of his son 
Thomas MAHER who died July 9th, 1831 aged 24 years.  Also 
the remains of the above William MAHER who died July 13th 
1834, aged 67 yrs."

"Erected by John DWYER in memory of his father Denis DWYER 
of Forrest who departed May 3, 1825 aged 97 years.  Also his 
mother Julian DWYER alias BRYAN, who departed Nov. 7, 1830 
aged 86 yrs,"

"ERECTED by Michael CARROL of Templemore in memory of his 
dearly beloved son, William CARROL who departed this life 
March the 9th, 1832, aged 23 yrs."

			As you are now once was I
			As I am now so will you be
			Think of death and pray for me"
								[On a hard gritsone flag]

"Here lies the remains of Rodger RYAN of Templemore who 
departed this life June the 2nd, 1816 aged 63 years.  Also 
of his wife Margaret RYAN alias O'MAHER of Templemore who 
died Dec. 25th, 1832 aged 76 years. R.I.P.

Of William RYAN, their sixth son who died August 21st 1865 
aged 83 years. John RYAN eldest son of Rodger RYAN, died 
24th August 1861, aged years.  Mary RYAN wife of John RYAN 
died May 15th 1856 aged 80 years.  William RYAN erected this 
tomb over his parents."

	'On the north side of a large oblong urn, which 
surmounts an altar tomb' :-

"THIS monument was erected by Denis RYAN of Templemore, 
architect, to commemorate his deeply beloved wife Mary RYAN 
alias SWEENEY who departed this life 2nd Dec. 1825 in the 
59th year of her age."

			'On the south side of the urn' :-

"Beneath are deposited the mortal remains of Denis RYAN of 
Templemore architect who departed this life the 14th Nov. 
1832, aged 49 years.  R.I.P.A."

"Here lies the body of Daniel SWEENEY who departed this life 
March 15, 1771 aged 56"

"Erected by John MAHER in memory of his father James MAHER 
of College Hill who departed this life March 4th, 1833 aged 
75 years."

	'There two low modern altar tombs covered with stones, 
old coffins, &c.'

"Here lies the Body Of Elizabeth MACKEY alias FOGARTY who 
departed this life Dec. the 14th, 1765 aged 32 yrs. - 
Erected by Patrick NAHER" [Maher]

"This stone was erected by Patrick FOGARTY of Aughall in 
memory of his wife, Honoro FOGARTY alias STAPLETON who 
departed the life the 1st of April 1819 in the 34th year of 
her age, also his [?] mother Judith STAPLETON who departed 
this life Nov. 26th, 1777 aged 53 yrs."

	'The other 4 or 5 in this chancel I have already 
mentioned. In the open graveyard beginning N.E. corner is an 
altar-stone enclosed by iron paling' :-

"Erected by Francis O'MULLANE of Templemore in memory of his 
father Jeremiah O'MULLANE who died 3rd Dec. 1853 aged 45 
yrs. Also his wife Maria O'MULLANE died  Oct. 25th, 1851 
aged 40 yrs, And Ellen O'MULLANE their daughter died Oct 
20th 1852 aged 13 yrs.  Also his Uncle Francis WHITFORD died 
March 10th 1859 aged 98 years and their daughter Anne Jane 
MULLANE who died August 16th 1882 aged 34 yrs."

	'Lying on the ground a curious soft limestone vessel, in 
general outline like the section of a fluted pillar with a 
trough at each end; the troughs are connected by a hole in 
the centre; one side of the vessel - almost half of the 
stone is -- broken away.'

"Here lies the body of Thomas SCARLAND who died December 1st 
1755 aged 49 yrs.  Erected by Johanna LEAMY in memory of her 
father Patrick LEAMY who died Nov. 14th 1853 aged 40 years 
and her deceased friends.  

Sacred to the memory of John CASEY of Templemore who died 
8th June 1869 aged 72 years, also to his son Martin died 
Janry. 1860 aged 28 yrs. Erected by his sons"

"Here lyeth the Body of Mary BUTLER who departed this life 
October 21, 1772 Ag [buried]"

"Here lyeth the Body of Dennis COSTELLO who departed this 
life January 5, 1750 [buried]"

"O God have mercy on the Soul of James DOUSY who departed 
this life 30th Sept. 1801 aged 47 years"

"Erected by Patrick REARDON in memory of his son, Callahan, 
1817"

"Here lieth the body of James BURK who died May 24th, 1785 
aged 30 years and his son John BURK who died Oct. 1st, 1799 
aged 30 years"

"O God have mercy on the soul of Daniel DOLOHANTY who 
departed this life Jan. 9th, 1800 aged 74 yrs. Also his wife 
Anne SCOT, Nov. 15 1800 aged 68 years"

"Here lieth the body of Patrick LANNAGAN late of Ivyhawl, 
who departed this life Dec. 21, 1799 aged 34 years.  Also 
his brother Timothy LANNAGAN who departed this life March 10 
1807 aged 30 years"

"Erected by Margt LANIGAN in memory of her dearly beloved 
husband James LANIGAN of Balicheen who departed this life 
the 27th day of Sepr. in the year of our Lord, 1822 in the 
62nd year of his age. - A eulogy.  Here also lies the body 
of Rody LANIGAN, who departed this life Decr. the 26th, 
1836, aged 39."

"Here lieth the body of Michael LANAGAN late of Ivyhal, who 
departed this life 18 Dec. 1796 aged 74.  Also his wife Ann 
Quinn, Jan. 6, aged 60"

"Here lieth the body of Catherine LANAGAN who departed this 
life Jan 21 1777, aged 24 years, Here lieth the body of 
William MEAGHER who died 1775, aged 60 yrs."

	"A small upright stone with cross inscribed thus:_

"Here lieth the body of William FOGARTY of Aughall who died 
June 2nd 1813 aged 82 years. Also his wife Mary HARRINGTON 
who died Feb. 1st 1809 aged 66 yrs."

"Here lieth the body of John WILLINGTON, Esq., Barrister at 
Law, who departed this life at Worcester in England on the 
14th of Jany. 1791 aged 55 years"

"Underneath this stone erected by his affectionate mother 
lies the Remains of her beloved son, Roderick WILLINGTON who 
departed this life with the cheering hope thro' intercession 
of his Savior of a Blessed immortality the 7th of Augt. 
1825, Born 30 May, 1800."

	'An altar tomb' :-
"Here are deposited the remains of John WILLINGTON, Esqr. of 
Castle WILLINGTON, Co. Tipperary who departed this life 
February 1819, aged 64 years. Also within in this tomb is 
placed the remains of his beloved wife Jane WILLINGTON who 
departed this life 18th Oct. 1830 aged 63 years."

"Here lies the Body of Jonathan WILLINGTON, Esq. of 
Killoskehan, who departed this life the 9th if June, 1761 
aged 59 years."

"Here lies the body of Daniel DOLOHANTY who departed this 
life Sept. 29th, 1799 aged 63 yrs."

	'Against the west side of the south door of the church' :-

"This stone is to mark the spot where lieth John, the child 
of William MEAGHER of Jockeyhall, died 3rd of Dec. 1828, 
aged 5 years"

"Erected  by Anne KENNEY in memory of her husband Patrick 
KENNEY, late of Templemore. who died Nov. 20 1839 aged 78 
years."
