CHURCH SIGN, PARISH CHURCH AT BOHER 2002

Source: Photographs Taken In 2002

Roman Catholic Parish Church at Boher, Parish of Lemanaghan
[var.], Kings County, Ireland.

Church History from sign:
This Church stands on the site of a monastery founded by St
Manchan before his death in the plague of 664. The oldest
surviving remnants of this monastery are the grave slabs
(9-10th Century?). The Church dates partly from the 12th or
partly from the 15th century, and to the east is a stone
building called 'the cell of St Manchan's mother'.

The fine 12th century shrine of St Manchan is preserved not
far away in the parish church at Boher.
