MCGINN, JAMES FEBRUARY 1888

Daily Alta California, San Francisco, CA Feb. 8, 1888

Many hundreds of friends were painfully surprised at the
announcement of the death of James McGinn, the well-known
undertaker, who for many years has pursued his vocation in
this city, latterly at No. 30 Eddy street.

Mr. McGinn was born in County Monaghan, Ireland, in the year
1827, being therefore about 61 years old at the time of his
decease. He came to this country in 1850, settling at first
in New York. In 1852 he came to San Francisco by way of
Panama, and commenced a stationery business at the site of
the present Nucleus building. In this business he continued
until 1865, when he started an undertaking establishment.

He was twice married and leaves a widow and twelve children,
eight of whom were men and were associated with him in the
undertaking business at the time of his death. Of his four
daughters, two are married and living in this city.

A solemn high mass, de corpore presente, will be celebrated
for the eternal repose of his soul, at 10 o'clock this
morning at the Cathedral.
