CHARGED WITH OBSTRUCTION - 1887

1887 County Limerick. (Newspaper unknown)

On Sept 7th at Bruff, six men and three women were charged
before a court constituted under the Coercion Act with
having obstructed the Sheriff on the occasion of the
evictions on The O'GRADY Estate. On that occasion during the
course of the evictions, the house of Mrs. Crimmins, which,
as well as others, was barricaded, was the scene of some
stubborn resistance, and when it ultimately fell into the
hands of the Sheriff all its occupants were arrested, lodged
in Limerick Goal, and brought to trial. Five of the men were
sentenced to a month's imprisonment, and the sixth, who was
sworn to have been more active in resisting than the rest,
was imprisoned for three months. Mrs CRIMMINS was sent to
gaol for a month and the charge against her two daughters
were dismissed. The names of the accused were Hannah
CRIMMINS, Mary Theresa CRIMMINS, Johanna CRIMMINS, Richard
O'CONNELL, Michael L. O'TOOLE, Thomas DOOLEY, W. O'MEARA,
Denis MOLLOY and Edward MOLLOY.
