OBITUARY: O'BRIEN, MARY CASSIDY JUNE 17, 1890

Lowell Sun. Lowell, MA 21 June 1890
On Tuesday evening Mrs. Mary O'Brien died
at her residence 83 South street at the ripe
age of 98 years. She was mother of seven
children only two of whom are now alive namely
Edward O'Brien who resided at the house of
the deceased and Mrs. Kate O'Connor widow
of Bernard O'Connor who for many years kept
a grocery store on Gorham street. Deceased was
born in County Leitrim, Ireland, and came to
this country when quite young settling in Boston.
Her maiden name was Mary Cassidy. A few years
after her marriage she removed to this city,
where she resided to the time of her death.
She was present at the laying of the corner
stone of St. Peter's half a century ago. Mrs.
O'Brien had been unwell for the past three
months. She remembered many of the important
events of Irish history of the first part of the
century, and often would relate stories of
by-gone days. Up to the last she retained the
full uses of her faculties. Deceased was of a very
kind and gentle disposition and had many friends.
