Dover, NH, May 20 – Patrick McManus,
one of the best known and best respected
of our Irish-American citizens died this
evening at 6:30, aged 68. He was born at
Ballinamore, County Leitrim, Ireland on
St. Patrick's Day, 1820. He came to this
country in 1843, and for five years lived
in Providence. In 1848 he came to Dover.
He first went to work in the gas house and
became manager there. Later on, as a
contractor he saved considerable money
and invested in a grocery store on Main street,
which proved a financial success. He was
married twice, and had five children by his
first wife, two of whom are still living. He
leaves a widow. He was an honorary member
of Division 3 A.O.H. and of the H.U.D. Society,
under whose auspices his funeral will take
