CEMETERIES: SHEESTOWN CHURCH, ST. PATRICK'S PARISH

Sheestown Church, Parish of St. Patrick - [4 1/2 miles
S. of Kilkenny]

'The church and churchyards are surrounded by a good
stone wall about 4 foot high. The church is in ruins,
but several windows and arches are still well
preserved. The burial-place of the O'SHEE family is
inside this church; the gate leading to it kept locked,
The churchyard is full of briars and nettles and is not
well kept.'

"God be merciful to the Soul of Jno POWER who died
in the yr 1758 aged 69. Also his wife Margt. POWER
Als. BENYIN who died in the year 1741 aged 50 with
Thos., Margt., Jno, Joan, and Jno Grandchildren of the
above and children of Patt. POWER"

"Erected by Mary CAHILL in memory of her husband
David CAHILL who died 10th March 1803 aged 86
years"

"Erected by William GORE of Newhouse Ormon in
memory of his son Daniel he died July the 12th 1784
Aged 24 years."

"Erected by Mr. Patrick FARRELL in memory of his wife
Mrs. FARRELL alias COSGRIFF who departed this life on
the 29th August 1792 in this 38th year of her age.
May the Lord have mercy on her Soul. Also their
daughter, Mary who departed the 5th June 1794 Aged

"This stone was erected by Michael HOBAN in memory
of his son Jno HOBAN who died the 15th of November
1769 Aged 20 years"

the 24th Novr. 1764 Aged 58 years. also his son Patt
KELLY who died the 13th April 1789, aged 30 yrs. And
also the body of Mrs. Mary MURPHY als. KELLY of
Outrath who depd. Sept. the 10th, 1813 Aged 36 years
with 10 of their children'

WALL who depd. this life Jany. 9th 1800, Aged 64
years. Also his wife Mary WALL alias CARTY died Feby.
27th 1758, Aged 42 years with 6 of their children and 3
of James WALLS"

"Here lies the body of Phillip REDDY and his son James
who depd. this life May 4th in the year of our Lord
1749. Requiescant in pace Amen. This stone was
erected by his son Edmund Sept. 19 1781. As also the
above Edmund REDDY he dies April the 24th 1781

"Here lieth the body of Richd. KANE he died March the
17th 1765 aged 50 years. Also his wife Joan KANE als.
KELLY she died June 30th 1783 aged 35 years with 2 of
their children"

'Here lies the body of James KELLY of Outrath who
departed Sepr. 26th 1768 aged 36 years. Also his son
Michael KELLY depd. August 22nd 1794 aged 48 years.
Also his children. May they rest in Peace Amen

"Here lyeth the body of Mr. Keran KELLY of the city of
Kilkenny who departed this life February the 18th in

his father James ROBERTS who died 26th Sept. 1868
aged 72 years. Also his mother Elizabeth ROBERTS
