The original church on this site was built in the 12th
Century. Only the tower survived an attack by Robert Bruce
in 1317. Major reconstruction was carried out in the 17th
Century. To meet the cost of the reconstruction a tax was
imposed on each house in the parish. Archbishop Price,
benefactor of Arthur Guinness is interred here as is Deborah
Marsh, sister of Narcissus Marsh, Archbishop of Dublin, and
founder of the renowned Marsh's Library. The clock on
the tower dates from the 18th Century.
