AUGHRIM - PROTESTANT CHURCHYARD
    [From Lord Walter FitzGerald]

A modern church stands in this burial-ground. The tombstones 
are not older than the eighteenth century; the oldest appear 
to be the following' :

  'On a small headstone, south side' :
     HERE LIES THE | BODY OF SHVESA | NNA BEGGLY WHO | DYED 
THE 16TH OF |  MARCH 1759.

     'Headstone, east end' :
     Pray for Barbara | FitzSimons who | Departed April | 
The 6th 1779 The | Lord Be Mercifoul [sic] | to her Soul 
Amen | Erected by N. F.
     _____

     'On a table-tomb' :
                                       a
     Here Lieth the Body | of William Grrett [sic] who | 
Departed this Life Novembr | the 20. 1778 (?) Aged 79 years. 
| This Stone was Erected by | his wife Margaret Garrett | 
Also his wife Margaret Garrett | who died the 14th of Nov. 
1812 | Aged 100 years.

     'On a flat slab, at the west end':
     Beneath this stone are | Deposited the Remains of |
                         h
     Iohn Todd of Glanloug | ane who departed this | life 
the 20th of Decr 1789 (?) | Aged 84 years. | This Stone was 
Erecd | by Iohn Todd son of the | abovementioned Io | hn. | 
Grateful Tribute to Memories.

                  IN THE OLD CHAPEL YARD
                  
     'A handsome new chapel, on a different site, has 
replaced the old one, of which practically the west gable 
alone stands.
                                                N N

     'The following inscription is copied from a flat slab 
at the west end, and inside the ruins':

     I.H.S.

     Lord have mercy on the | soul of Martin Loughnan | & 
his Posterity, he Depd this | Life Novr ye 30th 1788 Aged | 
52 yrs  This stone was Erected | By his son Walter Loughnan 
| as a gratefull Testimony | to his Father's Memory.

     'On a flat slab, at the west end of the 
burial-ground':— Lord be mercifull to the | soul of Fergus 
Dolan who | Dept ye life Augt ye 7th 1784 | Aged 52 years.  
Erected by | his son In Dolan for him & | Posterity.
