Below is given a tracing of “an inscription on a stone over the east window of
the abbey, on the inside, which was removed in 1790 at the repairing of the
cathedral.  The inscription is seven inches in length, and the letter are about
and inch high

As far as is know the words have not yet been read.

In the Tomb Underneath are deposited the Remains of Ellinor LYONS HOLMES the
wife of Samuel HOLMES of Lenederg and Rose-Hall  She departed this mortal Life
the 9th of november 1796 aged 45 years  also their infant children the offspring
of said Samuel and Ellinor

Sacred to the memory of the Revd. James STURROCK Vicar of Seapatrick whose
mortal remains are here deposited  Over which this stone was placed By his
fondly attached and sorrowing relict Annabella STURROCK In the prime of life.
Lamented by his friends and parishioners He was killed by a fall from his horse
on the 17th day of April 1803.
