of the County of Londonderry for six & thirty years |
and some time senior burgess of the Corporation of this
City | through life a virtuous citizen and an upright man
| An unassuming deportment bespoke the humility of a
Christian spirit | and plicity of manner a heart to which
duplicity or disguise | was unknown | Too high minded
to ask favours, too pure to purchase them | he passed
through life unfettered by obligation | and in the full
enjoyment of honourable independence | In his
friendships steady and sincere | he served many and
served them well | looking for requital less in the
gratitude of mankind | than the approbation of a
benevolent heart | To record his virtues is less the
design of this tablet | than to receive the tribute of
conjugal affection | and the veneration of ten dutiful
children | To the memory of a beloved husband and
affectionate father | Obiit 27 Decemb. 1825 AEtat :
suae 75.

Love | She Died In The Island Of Trinidad | November
2nd 1836 (?) | Aged 68.

Under this stone lye buried the remains of | WILLIAM
HOGG Esq. late an Aldermn of | this City who died the
3rd of July 1770 Aged 75 years | Also the body of ALEX.
LECKY Esq. late an | Alderm who died 1717 & of of
ALICIA His wife & | of THOMAS LECKY Esq. Aldm son to
the above | mentioned Alex. who died 1710 Aged 37
yrs | Also the body of ALEXANDER LECKY Esq. | And
JANE his Wife. He was the son of the before |
mentioned THOMAS and died the 6th of May 1748 |
Aged 29 years. she was Daughter to the beford
mentioned WILLIAM HOGG and died the 20th of |
December 1757 Aged 32 yrs. | Also the body of
Alderman WILLIAM LECKY son of the above | named
ALEXANDER and JANE. He was for 7 years | an
Incorruptible Representative in Parliament | and for 50
an able just and fearless Magistrate | of this City. He
died on the 16th of May 1823 | in the 77th year of his
age | Also the body of HANNAH his wife | Daughter | of
CONOLLY McCAUSLAND Esqr of Fruithill in this County.
She died on the 26th of Augst 1826 aged | 75 years.
Also the Body of SIDNEY their 3d | Daughter who died
on the 24th of Novr 1833 | in her 48th year. Also the
Body of ALEXANDER | their third son who died on the
11th of February | 1852, aged 67 years.

Wife of Alderman THOMAS KENNEDY | And Daughter
of the Late | DICKSON CONINGHAN Esq | By Her Sisters
| As a Record of Their Love | Obiit 27th June 1840.

Reverend |WILLIAM KNOX, D. D. | Lord Bishop of Derry
| This monument has been erected by the Clergy and
Laity | of all denominations of his Diocese | to
perpetuate the remembrance of that tolerant and
Christian Spirit | which for twenty- seven years marked
his Episcopate | that munificence which reared and
fostered the public tutions of this city | and that
unaffected benevolence, which, animating and
adorning his life | secured the gratitude and even the
affections of all classes of Society | He died the 10th
July 1831 in the 71st year of his age.

33rd Regt Madras N.I. | To The Memory of the Late |
JOHN GAY LEATHEM of This City Esqre | Who Was An
Ensign of That Corps | to Testify the High Esteem Which
They | Entertained For Him Whilst He Was Alive | And
Their Deep And Unfeigned Regret | For His Death | He
Died at St. Thome on 2nd November 1830 | In the 25
Year Of His Age.

This old stone, with the consent of the LECKY family |
was brought her in 1927, to ensure its preservation |
and a new stone substituted for it in the grounds of |
this Cathedral, under the terms of the Will of the late |
Lieut-Colonel CECIL HAMILTON BROWNE- LECKY, D.L.,
J.P., | in Memory of his Brother | Captain WILLIAM
LECKY HAMILTON BROWNE, R.N. , D.L. | this
distinguished officer, who died on the 12th December |
1900, while commanding H.M.S. Severn at Harwich, in |
the 40th year of his service to the Queen, was a |
descendant, and heir to portion of the estate, of the |
above named WILLIAM LECKY, M.P.

Distinguished officer, who | died on the 12th

She was exemplary as a wife and mother| expemplary
as a cristian| in mind and spirit as well as in profession|
she was a member of the Church of England| and in the
whole tenor of her ___? Life| she manifested that pure
and peaceful piety| which is now so seldom found| but
in the lives and writings of the venerable dead| She
died on the 24th of August, 1790 | aged 69 years| The
survivors of their sixteen children,| of whom nine lie
interred near this place| have caused this grateful
memorial| to be erected.| MDCCCXXI.
