SODEN, BARTLE & ELLEN

Cemetery: St Dympna, Lower Lavey Churchyard

Photograph shows St. Dympna Church, Lower Lavey, in the
background. In the foreground stands a large white
(marble?) stone ringed Celtic cross with bas relief
flowers/leaves, intertwined letters IHS, and rope molding.
At the bottom of the cross, in an arc, is carved the name
SODEN.

Rope molding sets off the cross from the stepped plinth on
which it stands. The plinth is made of the same white stone
as the cross and is carved with the words

(on top step)
In Loving Memory
of

(on second step)
BARTLE SODEN, Knockanork,
who died March 1893, aged 83 years.
Also his wife ELLEN SODEN,
who died Sep. 1918, aged 96 years.

R.I.P.

(on third step)
Erected by their daughter Kate S. Reilly,
of Philadelphia, U.S.A.

The bottom step is of a different stone, possibly granite.

The ground in front of the tombstone has been covered in
dark gray crushed stone. Directly in front of the tombstone
is a small, flat, octagonal piece of white stone upon which
sits an arrangement of flowers.
