OBITUARIES: KILPATRICK, THOMAS NOVEMBER 23, 1902

Brooklyn Daily Eagle, NY, November 1902

Thomas Kirkpatrick, one of the oldest builders in the city,
died at his residence, 122 East Seventy-third street,
Manhattan, yesterday, in his eighty-first year. He was born
in Killyleagh,County Armagh, Ireland, in 1822, and came to
this city in 1848, where he has been continuously engaged in
the building business until his retirement about 5 years
ago. He was a man of original and progressive ideas, and was
a pioneer in building apartment houses. In 1853 he built in
Thirtieth street, near Lexington avenue, Manhattan, the
first apartment house in New York that contained bathrooms,
hot and cold water, and other improvements.
