CEMETERY: BALLYCARRY CHURCHYARD. PARISH OF RASHARKIN

'Lewis, in writing of this parish, says :-- It was also called "RathArkin
and Magherasharkin.  The glebe-house was repaired, Lewis says by the then
(1837) incumbent, at a cost of L 3,692."

[From the Rev. J. H. Martin, LL.D., Rector of Rasharkin.]

'On flat tombstone in church yard, broken at edge:--"Here lieth the Body
of the REV. SKEFFINGTON [Bristow] |Prebendary of Rasharkin for 60 years
who d[eparted] | this life in the ninety sixth year of his age on | 7th
day of May 1797.And also of his wife ELIZABETH who departed | this life
on the 21st day of March 1792, aged seventy. And also their daughter,
SOPHIA WILSON wh[o] | departed this life on the 14th of December 1791
-- aged forty-five years.And also of their Grand Daughter MARGARET TORRENS
| and of their Great Grand Daughter SOPHIA BRISTOW | aged 5months and their
Great Grand Daughter | SOPHIA MARSHALL aged 6 months. Also of SKEFFINGTON
GORE BRISTOW | son of the above |SKEFFINGTON BRISTOW | who died in the
month of | February1798."

'On a flat tombstone, greatly broken, and now bound with iron':--"To the
Memory of | Revd. WM. RAVENSCROFT, Prebendary of Rasharkin, who died May
the 5th . . . . . . . [1804?]aged  _8 years."

'On a flat stone in the churchyard':--"Erected | To the Memory of | The
REVD. WM. H. DICKSON |for 46 years, | Prebendary of Rasharkin | He depd
this life the 24th Septr. 1850 | in his 74th year."_____

'Inscription on a square tablet on the north wall of the church;:--"Here
lieth ye Body | of MARGARET McNEILE wife to Captain DANIEL McNEILE,
| Who departed this life March the | 17the year 1723.As also ROSE, MARY,
ARCHD. And MARGARET McNEILE her Children."

'On an oval tablet on south wall':--
"HIC | JACET | J | OHAN DV | NBAR, CLER |

QUI TERRIS | IN | CELVM MI | GRAVIT

28 | DIE 7 BRIS | ANNO DINI | 1696."

'The present church was built about 1866.'Rev. Steffington Bristow, 1737 (?)

'The four walls of the old church are still (1886) standing."
