Extracts from the Watson File’s c.1655

Names mentioned: Watsons, Hunter, Brownrigg, Thompson, Porrson & Prittie.

From the Watson File, one of several documents on faded paper recorded in a 17th century type of shorthand (verging on tachygraphy) with many words contracted, this is the best we could transcribe under the circumstances.

"Know all men by these Presents that I John Hunter late a soldier in Col. Henry Pritties troop have barganed given granted and confirmed my Applotment & nominated my wellbeloved friend John Watson his heirs or assignees forever in Considerations for divors goods and Especially in Consideration of ye payed Sum of fifty pounds ten Shillings four pence half penny ~~~~~ & do Enter into and take possession of all such lands, tentenments, hereditaments with appurtances etc. at Staplestown and Kilmagleny Catherlaug ~~~~~~allotted to the aforesaid John Hunter ~~~~~~by his highness Lord Protector ~~~

From the Watson File, reading much the same as the previous transaction, in fact one document helped us to decipher the other, one of several documents on faded paper recorded in a 17th century style of shorthand (verging on tachygraphy) with many words contracted, this is the best we could transcribe under the circumstances. [~~~~~ indicates words / lines we were unable to decipher].

"Know all men by these Presents that I John Smyth late a soldier in  ~ Wallers  ~ his troops & ffrancis Ldwi [ ? ] late of ~~ have barganed given granted and confirmed our applotment & nominated our wellbeloved friend Samuel Watson his heirs or assignees for ever in Satisfaction for ye diverse goods and Especially in Consideration of ye payed Sum of thirty & five pounds ten Shillings ~~~~~ & do Enter into and take possession of all such houses, lands, tentenments, hereditaments with appurtances etc ~~ so forth at Fena & Clunikshine Catherlaug ~~~~~~ allotted to the aforesaid John Smyth and ffrancis Ledi ~~~~~  his highness Lord Protector or any offer ~~ him for Conformation of ye promises ~~~ and against all ~~~~Claiming ~~~~~it shall be demanded by ye said Samuel Watson his heirs executors administrators & assignees ~~~~~~~~~In Witness ~~~ here unto sett our hands & ~~~ this seventh day of October [possibly 1655].
