This work includes the text from 449 tombstones and includes 339 surnames. Irish tombstones tend to be more informative than their American counterparts, giving in addition to names and ages the various relationships, places of residence, etc. A typical example from this work states that it was "Erected by John Sheil to the memory of his father Kearn Sheil of Bagenalstown who depd. this Life Feb. 5th 1850 aged 76 years. Also his mother Catharine Shiel (alias O'Brien) who depd. this Life Nov. 7th 1844 aged 72 years. Also his brother in law Loughlin Doyle who depd. this Life June 4th 1842 aged 34 years.

Also three of his nephews Kearn Doyle, who depd. this life June 7th 1838 aged 4 years. Also John Doyle who depd. this Life March 30th 1839 aged 3 years. Also Michael Doyle who depd. this Life Oct 26th 1841 aged 3 years, sons of the above Loughlin Doyle." Some of the most frequently cited surnames are Bolger, Brennan, Byrne, Collier, Connolly, Corcoran, Cummins, Dillon, Doyle, Hennessy, Kavanagh, Kelly, Lyons, Miller, Murphy, Newton, Nolan, Nowlan, Smyth, Tennant, and Walsh.
