Dan Carbery
(1904-1958)

Mr. Dan Carbery.

Townspeople heard with sorrow of the death on Tuesday of Mr Dan Carbery, Glenart, Green Road, Carlow.

A native of Athy, where he was born in 1904, he was educated at the local C.B.S. and came to Carlow in 1930.

He was a director of the firm D. & J. Carbery & Co. Ltd., building contractors, and was also a director of Corcoran & Co. Mineral Manufactures.

The late Mr Carbery was responsible for the erection of many notable buildings in Carlow and district and at the time of his death his firm was engaged on the erection of a new Presentation Convent School in the town.

He was also connected with the building of Ardattin Church, Carlow Presbytery, a number of extensions to local factories, and schools at Graiguecullen, Bagenalstown and Tullow.

He was a former Inter- Provincial Rugby player and at one time Captain of Carlow Golf Club, of which he was a committee member up to the time of his death.

He was President of St, Brigid's Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Carlow.

The late Mr Carbery will be remembered as a devoted family man, a model husband and father.

Deeply religious, he was respected by all who knew him.

The remains were brought to the Cathedral on Wednesday evening, and were followed by hundreds of people from all sections of the community.

Carbery (sisters-in-law).

One of the Chief mourners was Dan Carbery's son who is also called Dan Carbery (Photo).

Sympathy:

At a special meeting on Wednesday night, Carlow Chamber of Commerce voted sympathy with the widow and family of the late Dan Carbery, President of the Chamber.

The meeting was adjourned as a mark of respect.

Carlow is the poorer by the death of Dan Carbery and John Sweeney, these two men contributed so much to the town during their busy lifetimes.

Sincere regret is extended to their families.
