The Original County Roscommon Database

Preliminary work on this database was started in 1986 by Cousin David Falion whom in 1996 went online as one of the six first six         counties to go online as IrelandGenWeb (IGW)

Thanks also go to Cousin Ed Finn for inspiration provided by his Leitrim-Roscommon website in 1995.

This website contains common records like census and BMD, but seeks out uncommon records that are much older, therefore much harder harder to find.

Who marched to Tipperary and why did they not march to Connaught instead instead?. Who lost land? Who received land back? Who was transported to Australia as convicts? Find the answers to questions in this database.

NEW-OLD FAMILIES-NEW

Old families of Ireland.

Perhaps the largest clan and owned the most land was Chief with Gaelic name Ceallaigh which after the Normans came became the Irish name O'Kelly, and during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I became Kelly as we know the surname today. A few old Kelly families still use the spelling O'Kelly.

Records say in the 4th century this migrated from what is now Tyrone to the province now called Connaught.

Connaught at that time was occupied by clans known as Firbolgs.

This will take some time to compile several pages of records, but when completed you will find the link here. Also please provide your own old family history.
