Longford Militia Muster - Oct 1799

In the county Militia there was supposed to be an Inspection Parade
held four times a year in each of the Company areas. Privates were paid
1shilling per day (£0.05p) for attendance.
The Longford Militia was divided into; Companies led by Captains. The officers
as with the Church of Ireland tended to be made up of the local Landlord class.
The October 1832 Muster pay lists were compiled each month because of the threat
of imminent invasion or Rebellion as with the United Irish Movement led by Wolfe
Tone the year before, ‘the 1798’. Many persons who are missing at this time
will not include here as they were recruited into the Regular Army.
