| Henry Quinn +++++++++++++++++++Read the "Henry Quinn Story Mourne - Californian Pioneer" by J. S. Doran published in the Mourne Observer. +++++++++++++++++++ | QUINN'S JOURNEY Please to meet you I'm Harry Quinn. I come from Kilkeel in County Down. I sail from my home in Ireland, the seventh son of the seventh son.
I sailed from Newcastle in '63. Round Tierra del Fuego to the Melbourne quay, where stars and stripes did catch my eye. I said "That's me flag boys," Australia good-bye
I'm going to the Golden State Make me my fortune before it's too late Land of plenty, or so they say California, I'm on my way.
Across the Pacific our sails did fly As we trained our eyes on the eastern sky and sighted a country my dreams had belied "Jesus, Mary and Joseph!", I cried.
So I toiled and toughened and made my way and built my fortune and family. From Rag Gulch it stretches out far and wide, on up to Val Verde on the eastern side.
I'm going to the Golden State Make me my fortune before it's too late Land of plenty, or so they say California, I'm on my way.
A hundred years later my great grandson borne of the valley and raised in the sun, did travel to Ireland to the County Down and married a lassie in Belfast town.
A great grand-daughter of Maeve the Queen, and the seventh son of the San Joaquin. Two daughters begotten - so proud and strong and gave them the power to carry on.
I'm going to the Golden State Make me my fortune before it's too late Land of plenty, or so they say California, I'm on my way.http://www.thefarallons.com/music-4.html | |
