Churches

Old genealogists never die, they just haunt cemeteries.

Churches

Ros Davies has a comprehensive section on the churches of Co. Down on her website at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rosdavies/CHURCHES/A-I.htm
and
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rosdavies/CHURCHES/K_W.htm

Her site includes a list of the parishes that make up the various Poor Law Unions in Co. Down and a list of churches in the current phone book along with their addresses.

Jean McCarthy also has some beautiful photographs of churches taken throughout Co. Down at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36/index2.html

Steve Bulman has collated some photographs of Co. Down churches at:

Graveyards

Gravestone inscriptions are a wonderful source of information for both the local historian and for the genealogist.
County Down was chosen as the initial area of research for a series of  books entitled 'Gravestone Inscriptions, under the aegis of the Ulster Historical Foundation.  All gravestones having a date of death prior to 1865 have been copied completely; where practicable, stones containing dates prior to 1900 have been included and, in very small cemeteries, all headstone inscriptions have been transcribed. Further information on this project is available at PRONI.
Search the History from Headstones site.

Jean McCarthy also has some gravestone inscriptions from Co. Down at:
