I am seeking help with looking for a family from Clonduff in County Down.  I have already found John ADAMS born in Clonduff in 1842 (possibly Presbyterian). I really need help finding who his parents were and possibly any siblings he may have had.
I don't think that Adams is an Irish name does anyone think that the family may have moved to Ireland from Scotland or possibly England (if so when). Because I do not know John's parents names I cannot pick anything out from the Scottish or English Censuses or Birth Marriage and Death websites. I have hit a very hard brick wall here and any constructive help to knock this down would be very much appreciated. Contact

Hello Secret Researcher,
It seems I have hit the brickwall very hard. Please help if you can. Much appreciated.
Searching for Census or more information for James Adair Sr Born in 1792 In County Down Ireland. I believe he had 4 Marriages. Margaret Baxter, Ellen Hamilton, Mary ? and Sarah Elizabeth Miller which among other children had James Adair II. He married Eliza Meikle (no information found other than the name known by family members) had James Adair III in 1835 also in County Down Ireland. He, along with Henrietta Connolly born Feb 8 1839 Killinchy Down (father - Thomas Connolly --- Mother - Unknown) had, among other children, Major Adair  who married Christina Bryce (1882-1938) who came to Canada. They had, among other children, Henrietta Connolly Adair who is my grandmother and the mother to my father Major James Arsenault.
Thank you again for your time, if I am chosen to have my brickwall family member researched.

Hello from Australia. I am looking for a John AGNEW born around 1869 who married a Jane McDowall, they lived in Abbey street,, Bangor and had children Wiliam, Leila, Francie and Harold I think.
I came across another Agnew hunter who had the same names, plus another five more children, but years of birth were slightly different.
Knowing that families carried the same names, we could be looking at two cousins, both named John, who both married girls named Jane McDowall (McDowell). Ours was nick-named "Footballer Johnny", probably to differentiate him from the other John Agnew, and his son William married Mary Elizabeth Corrigan and emigrated to New Zealand.  Any help gratefully received.  Contact Liz at

BARCLAY or Berkeley the spelling changed when they moved to Bangor
You will maybe have to disregard all previous emails, done a bit more research on the surname and have come up with this similar family buried in City Cemetary.
The only way to find out is to really get a death certificate for one of these and it will maybe give more information as to were parents of deceased or maiden name of a married deceased.
GLENALINA (Now known as City Cemetary).
Record Nos., 659  9718  10846  34864  Section C Class 2 Grave No., 70.
Margaret BERKELEY age 43 spinster d.o.d. 2/10/1917
Andrew John BERKLEY age 83 married " 15/12/1932
Jane BERKELEY age 80 widow " 21/3/1934
Sarah Elizabeth BERKLEY 86 spinster " 9/12/1961
Margaret lived at 168 Donegall Road, A.J. and Jane at 198 and Sarah at 72 Newtownards Road. (newtownards road is also the road towards Bangor.
(Sarah died in Newtownards Hospital) 5 miles from Bangor.
Could this be them, maybe you could work out birth dates to see if they match death dates.

Would appreciate any information on this family, and living descendents still in Ireland.

SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!

My brickwall starts with my great grandfather, John Boyle. He was born at or near Balleney, County Down, Ireland. His first wife's name was Rachel Arbuthnot. She died before he immigrated. They had no children. He then married Margaret Robinson. He immigrated to America sometime between September 6, 1829 and June 9, 1832. They settled in the western part of Pennsylvania, in Washington County. We know that he returned to Ireland in August of 1847 to settle the estate of his father Wallace Boyle. He brought his mother back on the voyage to America, but she died on the wa and was buried at sea, This is all that I could find written down. My family was not noted for their record keeping. I have the entire history from this side of the big pond, but want to find out about where it all started. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BOWMAN

Samuel Bowman, son of Robert Bowman, was born in 1763 in County Down, Ireland. He immigrated with his parents and sibling(s) to the USA about 1770. The family landed in New York City, and went directly to Albany where they lived for many years. Because they went directly to Albany I suspect that they had Bowman cousins already living there.

For the full story please see my Bowman info at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cdobie/bowman.htm

I would very much like to find out more about the Bowmans and to track Samuel's siblings and children. Samuel fought as a teenager in the Revolution and afterwards moved to Pennsylvania, then Marshal County, West Virginia. A brother also went to Pennsylvania. I have this info from Samuel's pension file, but the file is very sketchy and incomplete.

I am seeking help tracing my Boomer relations from Portaferry - I have most of the information from when they were in Portaferry but nothing before that.
I have James Boomer married Eliza Sullivan, 10/8/1851, in Portaferry (and Philip Boomer married Elizabeth McDade)
I have most of the information on James and Eliza's children up to the present day (couple of paths to chase up yet) but no information on where they were before they appeared in Portaferry.
Both appear in Griffiths before they were married.
Philip's marriage certificate lists his father as "Rainey" Boomer, blacksmith which possibly implies they were from Lisburn
As far as I know the Boomers were originally Hugenots but my line are Catholic though it seems Philip was married in the Church of Ireland in Portaferry - VERY confused and definitely banging my head on that brickwall.
There are Boomers in Donaghadee but I've been in touch with them and no connection.

Sine 1999 I have been trying to trace my BRENNAN family.
My grandmother Mary Jane Genieve Brennan was married in the Isle of Man in 1898 to Frederick Daniel Gilmore.  It was assumed she came to the Isle of Man to look for work.
I know she had a sister Ellen and Anne and a brother Tom, no dates or ages to go on.    Not having any brothers or sisters myself to remember any details and I have very little info to go on.  Twice sine 2000 my husband and I have been to Dublin to try and trace them.  There father was Patrick Brennan and there are hundreds of them.  When she died in 1917 on her death certificate it says Mary Jane but it was always understood by the family that she had Genieve as well.  I have tried various ways to trace them - no one really wants to take them on as I know so little.  Contact Elaine at

My brickwall is my gg grandfather Rev. James Brownlee. He was born somewhere in County Down 12 March 1812. Family lore says his parents died at an early age and he was raised by his maternal grandparents whose family name was Stinson. His obituary says he learned the trade of a weaver, completing his apprenticeship at the age of 19. He left Belfast about 19 June 1831 aboard the British Barque Lark and arrived in Philadelphia 7 July 1831. He eventually became a Presbyterian minister and died in Carbondale, Illinois, on 8 January 1887. I know just about everything about him after his arrival in America but I have never found even a hint of who his parents may have been. Family lore also notes that he had a brother named Thomas. I would appreciate any help at all. Thanks,  Bill Brownlee

BROWN

I have been researching my  Brown family history and  have got back to April, 1817 ,when my  GGG/Grandfather, James  Brown took out a lease on Rosconnor House, with corn /flax mills , coach houses and 31 acres of arable land in the village of Annacloy , Parish Kilmore, County Down.  The landlord was Matthew Forde, Seaforde. The lease , (I have a copy), states that James  eldest son, William, was 3 years old at that time.

The house is a listed building, but as you can see is derelict.  The Brown family occupied the property for 70 years , and increased their land holdings to 110 acres.  However, due to financial difficulties in the 1870/80s they forfeited it all, and in the 1990s moved to Belfast.  So I have 3 bricks in my wall
        1.   They were obviously very wealthy gentlemen farmers ,so what caused their financial problems?
2.  Is it possible to trace  where James lived etc. before he came to Rosconnor?
3.  I would also like to trace the history of the house ,which according to the heritage survey in 2000  was built about the 1780s.?  Thank you. Roy Creighton. (Brown).  Contact Roy at:

My ancestors are from Ballysallagh, County Down, Northern Ireland. My gg grandfather, Patrick BRYSON, son of Samuel BRYSON who was the son of Andrew BRYSON, left in 1796. He was born there in 1767. He married Elizabeth McCracken there in 1795. The couple moved to Canton, Washington County, Pennsylvania and had eleven children, including my great grandfather,

William Sample BRYSON

The family were good Presbyterians and I am sure they were married in a Presbyterian church in County Down. Any ideas how I might gain more information such as the names of the couple's parents and dates? There was a John McCracken who married Hannah McCammon on 31 March 1765 who could be the parents of Elizabeth who was born in 1776. The older couple's wedding took place in the Banbridge Presbyterian Church. The list I have of marriages stops at the year 1794 so I don't have knowledge of Elizabeth and Patrick's possible wedding being done there.  Any information or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I would love to know who the parents were to my William BURNS.
William married Ann Lavery in Leitrim, Drumgooland Upper, Co. Down on 19th August 1827. Unfortunately the church in Leitrim does not have records going back any further than 26 May 1827. Any advice as to where to go now with this would be most welcome.

Thank you for giving all of us an opportunity to share our brickwall. We visited Banbridge in 2003 and looked through limited records at the Seapatrick RC Church outside of Banbridge. We visited the Travel Information center which also houses the Genealogy Center and looked at BURNS names.  The obituary for my great grandmother Margaret BURNS (it doesn't say Byrnes) says she was born in Banbridge, Co. Down on 3 April 1845. It does not say who her parents or siblings were.  Maybe she came as a domestic. Wisconsin Census says she came to America in 1862. And was then found in Wisconsin 1863.  She married Francis H. McNerney 1867 in Portage, Columbia Co. Wisconsin. His parents' names were James and Anna. When she had children of her own, she named them: Anna Florence, Margretta, Edward, Mary, Francis Peter, Charles Henry, Theodore, James, and Emma. The names may be helpful. Since  Margaret Burns' name is so common, I have no idea what passenger ship she came to America on. I don't know if she arrived in NY. As you can see, I have tried every resource.  It seems that if I could find the passenger ship, I might have something to work with, but alas I haven't found the ship.  I would be grateful for any suggestions or clues.  Thank you so much for allowing us to share our frustration!  Diana Williams in Washington State.  Please contact Diana at

My GGGG Grandfather was Robert Burnside who immigrated to America in Sept. 1817 through the port of Baltimore.  He declared on his naturalization papers that he was born in County Antrim, cir. 1765.  His son Samuel born cir. 1782 reported in the PA. 1860 census that he was born in County Down.  Other first names in this family that have been repeated through the years are:  Alexander, John, James, William, Mary, and Isabelle.  Other surnames saying they were born in Ireland and who lived near the Burnsides in PA. were:  Cooper and Eakin/Akin.  Thank you for your help!  Linda J. My brick wall is the Byars family from Kilkeel.  The Byars join my family tree with Charles Anderson Byars born 29/12/1864 in Kilkeel Down Ireland and died 05/02/1940 in Geelong Victoria Australia.  He married in Geelong in 1899 so arrived in Australia before 1899 but I am unable to find his name on any passenger lists so I am unsure on what ship and when he came to Australia.
If anyone is able to help with this I would very much appreciate it.
A kind soul called Sheila went to PRONI for me and found a little information on Charles father and mother.  His father was Thomas Byars born 1822 in Maghereagh Kilkeel Down Ireland and Died 17/01/1903 in Ballymageough, Kilkeel, Down, Ireland.  He married a Mary Campbell on 10 October 1848 in Mourne Presbyterian Church Kilkeel.
This is the extent of what I have been able to find out.  If there is anyone who can find any other information on Charles ancestry, or how Charles came to Australia I would be very appreciative.

I'm researching my William Caughey from Ballynahinch, County Down, as well as his father, Daniel and his wife, Mary McComb.   He was a laborer or farm laborer.  He married Mary McComb on August 16, 1876, in Ballynahinch Catholic Church.  William's father was Daniel Caughey of Ballynahinch, County Down.  Mary McComb's father was Robert McComb.  I'm trying to garner any information regarding William, Daniel or Mary Caughey and their ancestors.  Thank you. jcravi@aol.com

I’m trying to track down a Birth record for my Great-g-g-g Grandfather Thomas CHANCELLOR, who was born in the County of Down, Ireland possibly around 1833-1835 (he was then in Scotland for the 1851 Census, married Agnes CRAIG there in 1854, and emigrated to Australia ex. Liverpool in 1859).  There does exist a Christening record for a Thomas CHANCELLOR for 07 JAN 1838, Knockbreda, Down, Ireland but I would like to cross check that date against my ancestor’s birth record to make sure it is the same person.  Parents on the Christening record are recorded as Samuel CHANCELLOR and Margaret WILSON, of whom I haven’t been able to find out anything further (B/M/D, or children) but I am also keen to find out about siblings for Thomas CHANCELLOR as I am researching my family history for medical purposes and am trying to develop my international family tree to the present day.  I am also more than happy to share my Australian CHANCELLOR family tree with anyone who can make a connection! My brickwall is John CLANEY circa 1820, born around Bangor.  He married Nancy Mcgill and when she died he came to Australia in 1867 with his youngest son Alexander born 1851.  The other 3 sons had already migrated to the Mooroopna area, Victoria Australia, and selected land.   Their names were William 1844    , Archibald 1846   and George 1849.
There is a story that three of John Claney's brothers came to Australia but two went back.  I have found William Claney 1832, who went back and then to Illinois USA with his family, and think this may be a brother. His father's name was Henry Claney as this is on his marriage certificate in Adelaide in 1857 and they returned to UK in 1868.
Understood John to be a tenant farmer, but there are three listed on Ulster covenant Barony of Ards, and the 1821 dates would make them the generation  before. They are Alex, John and Archibald. Birth records did not have to be registered in 1820, so the only hope is if some of his relatives know of him, or if his marriage to Nancy Mcgill was recorded somewhere. I note on a family tree on one of the sites that George was born in Ballymede, Antrim so Nancy may have come from there.or perhaps John farmed there. He was of the protestant religion.

Two sons that I know of are Samuel COCHRANE born 4 May 1841 - Killyleagh, County Down and Thomas COCHRANE (my g grandfather) born abt 1844 - Killyleagh, County Down. Thomas came to New Zealand abt 1858 - jumped ship and Samuel arrived later with his wife Ellen Richmond and two children.
William COCHRANE we understand was a Ship's Master in the British Maritime Navy. Mary ORR is the daughter of William ORR (who was hung by the British - not the William ORR who was hung back in the 1700').

James Colwell

I have traced back to my Great Grandfather James Colwell who came to Australia in about 1832. Dates of birth vary depending on which documents you look at. I suspect his birth c1819/20, but it could also be c1823/24. I have never located his arrival on either passenger shipping lists or on convict lists, so his life until his marriage is a complete mystery although we do believe he emigrated as a free emigrant. He (and many of his sons) stood 6 foot 6 inches in their stockings - this may have helped him considerably in his early years in Australia as he would have passed for much older than 13, given his almost giant frame for those times.
I have found records of a land purchase in May 1853 in Victoria. This is the first documented evidence I have of his existence!
His marriage certificate (January 1856) clearly states his parents as John Colwell (farmer) and Isabella Forsaith. He was aged 32, a bachelor born in Banbridge, Co. Down.

His marriage to a Catholic girl apparently ended whatever contact he had with any family still in Ireland. It is reported that he said '..his father, on hearing that he had married a Catholic, (would) immediately come to Australia, kill him and then return home on the next boat.'   This indicates that John Colwell was still living in 1856 and a practicing 'Orangeman'.  James also stayed 'Orange', until late in life when he finally converted. All his children were raised Catholic.

James spent his life farming, and in 1888 his property was advertised for auction.' ..beautifully situated Agricultural and Grazing Farm....containing 135 acres on which is erected a good dwelling house containing 5 rooms...'  He kept meticulous records on his farming methods and expenditure. He was obviously well educated, especially compared to his wife who signed their wedding certificate by marking X.

His death certificate (March 1906) indicates he was 86 years old, born in Banbridge, Co.Down. It says he spent  'about 68 years in Victoria', was married in Victoria when he was 36 years old. His parents are again given as John Colwell and Isabella nee Forsaith.

His obituary, printed in the local newspaper, states ' He had reached the fine old age of 86 years, and had been 73 years in Australia, coming out here when he was a boy of 13.'

Various family stories handed down say that he was with one of the first sheep musters that drove sheep down from NSW into Victoria. I have some evidence of these drives but names of young shepherd boys were not recorded.

His Will (dated 1903) is the first and only time there is mention of a middle name, William. It may be that he took this name on his conversion to Catholicism, but honestly I don't know whether this is so.

All my attempts to research his family in Co Down have led nowhere. There have been suggestions that the spelling of Colwell could be different but given the records he kept, I feel he was definitely educated well enough to know how to spell him own name!  I also have a copy of a photograph taken in about 1878 of James and his wife, Margaret.

Any assistance in finding out more about James family in Ireland would be fantastic.

Hello, I am researching the Cousins/Cousens family who came from County Down Ireland circa 1818 to work on the canals of the Ottawa river near Grenville, Quebec.T he family consisted of parents Thomas and Ellen and their 4 sons William, John, James and Richard. One brother John Cousens came over with the Royal Artillery and the 60th regiment of foot. After years of research in Canada I have definitely confirmed the relationship between the 3 brothers and have recorded hundreds of their descendants in Canada and the USA down to the present day however, I have never been able to positively connect brothers John, James and Richard as sons of Thomas and Ellen or as brothers to William except via that they all lived in Grenville Quebec circa 1818 to 1832 before all going their separate ways. I am now interested in pursuing the brothers ancestors in Ireland and hope to connect all of the brothers and their parents together via church records in Ireland but I'm not sure how to proceed. I have a few clues as follows, a marriage record for William Cousins and Phyllis Hyde at Church of Ireland, Lisburn Cathedral, Blaris parish and County Antrim, they are noted as being residents of the parish of Magheragall. William and his father Thomas were weavers in Grenville, Quebec and owned approx 1000 acres of land. William and Phyllis died in Grenville circa 1851-1861.Second brother Johns army enlistment papers record his place of birth as "at or near Lisburn, Moira ,Down Ireland "his army papers also calculate his birthdate as July 28,1789. John was married first to Sarah surname unknown and second to Catherine McCutcheon. John was discharged from the army in 1822 and went to England as an outpatient at Chelsea hospital and then eventually went back to to Ireland. Family lore is that while in Ireland during this period John caused a scandal by leaving his first wife Sarah surname unknown and returning to Canada with Sarah's niece Catherine McCutcheon John appears to possibly have some education as he worked as a schoolmaster for the Garrison at Quebec City and later in Bondville  Quenbec. Between the 2 women John is rumored to have had 23 children some of whom may have remained in Ireland.Third brother James married a Mary Sunerton in 1820 Ireland, Youngest brother Richard came to Canada as a bachelor and married a soldiers widow here in Canada. Lastly family lore is that the brothers had an uncle Isaac Cousins who remained in Ireland.Any advice on where to begin greatly appreciated keeping in mind that I have to research from Canada for now. Thank you. Kate Thompson, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Jeannette MAXWELL (ca 1795-1869) and Susannah MAXWELL (ca 1793-bef.1880) are sisters.
Jeannette married Hugh CAIRNS about 1815 in Northern Ireland and they settled in Cumberland County, PA about 1820 and OH about 1842.
Children of Hugh CAIRNS and Jeannette MAXWELL : George Cairns, Jane Maxwell, Anna Cairns, John Maxwell, Sarah Ann, Susannah, Nancy E., Agnes, Samuel Alexander and Margaret. The first two were born in Ireland and the rest in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
Susannah MAXWELL married James DUFF in Northern Ireland before 1830 and left for US in 1856 settling in Miami County, Ohio next to Hugh and Jeannette.
Records of James and Samuel's children say they were born in County Down.
John M. (b 1830), Andrew Duff (b.1833), Sarah Elizabeth Duff (b.1835), Samuel C. Duff (b. 1840) and William M. Duff (b. 1843). With the age gaps, we believe some children/married daughters remained in County Down and are unknown to us. One of James' sons gave the middle name Alexander to a son.
Is this a hint of a relationship to the Alexander Duff found in early Down records?

We want to know where in County Down the DUFFs, MAXWELLs, and CAIRNs lived before they came to the United States.  Please contact Sandy in Denver, Colorado at:

I have a Mary (Ann CAMPBELL) born in 1813 in Finards, Co. Down.  Her father was William and her mother Ann all of Finards, Co. Down. Mary (Ann) married Robert REILLY in 1834 in Kilkeel Co. Down.  Their son William John REILLY was born in 1835 in Kilkeel. I have the family on the 1861 census in Glasgow, Scotland, with more children. I would love to know more. Please contact Pat at

Thank you in advance for assisting me in trying to locate information regarding my ancestors.  The information I have uncovered to date is in regards to a descendent by the name of John Cavana (Cavanaugh) who immigrated to the US from Ireland in 1847.  On annual census records, he provided "1820" as his birth year.  His death certificate indicates that his father's name was "Michael" and his mother's surname was "Toole", this was information provided by his spouse at the time of his death.  His naturalization paper, issued from the state of Ohio, shows his surname being spelled "Cavana", however, the spelling changed at some point in time to "Cavanaugh".  The only piece of information we cannot specifically validate is the fact that he came from County Down.  We obtained that piece of information from an elderly family member's interview prior to her death.  She was "certain" that he lived in County Down.

Any help you can provide us in my family's research would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I have been trying to decipher my great great great grandfather Philip Marmin Phillips. He was born in 1832. He father was William Phillips (linen manufacturer). I have been unable to find the name Marman but several variations. I am very open to any variations. I suspect William might have married a Marmion, possibly Anne. I think they were from County Down or Armagh. Philip married Mary Chapman in 1855 in Newry, Armgh. Mary was born in 1835(?). Her father was John Chapman.  If you can help, please contact Bob at

John (Jack) CLARKE, a convict, arrived in Sydney Australia in 1828 on the "Morley".
(From "Irish Convicts to New South Wales 1791-1819" by Peter Mayberry), John was tried in 1827 in Co.  Down, and sentenced to 7 years transportation.  His date of birth was given as 1808, and his native place was Newry, Co.  Down.
He was a shoemaker by trade.
From information on John's death certificate, he died 7 November 1866 at age 71 years. This would make his year of birth about 1795.
John was first assigned to Charles Tompson at "Clydesdale" Windsor New South Wales, then to Major Elrington at Braidwood New South Wales.
He married (c. 1840) Mary Connell, daughter of Michael and Margaret (nee Nowlan) Connell from Loghill Co Limerick.
John and Mary Clarke were my great-great grandparents.
Does anyone have information on John's family in Ireland? I would love to make contact with "cousins' and share our Australian history.  Contact Patricia at

William COCHRANE married to a Mary . Do not know if William was born in Ireland or Scotland.
I would dearly like to make contact with someone who may be able to help me. Contact Daphne at

Hiya,  I too, am looking for a couple of elusive family members in Co. Down.

Their son goes by the name of James COPES, born approx. 1844 (according to age on his marriage certificate), to John COPES and Jane MORRAY, (both deceased by 1867). I found James on his daughters marriage certificate, then started looking else where. I found him married to Isabella SLOAN in 1867 in Ayr, Scotland and again in the 1881 Census and the 1891Census and even the 1901 Census...so what are you looking for, you ask?

Well, his birth place wasn't revealed until the 1901 census - Co. Down, with his wife's birthplace listed as Killinchy, Co. Down on the 1851 census (not even sure if Killinchy belongs there or not, but that is what the record says!). So his birthplace and date, siblings naturally and ANY information about his parents in particular would be GREAT!!!!

He was a mason by the way from the beginning of my records to the end of them. His dads occupation is unclear, I think it says miner but it's too unclear to be sure. Any leads would help me out a lot.  With best wishes from our great land, Australia,  Fiona ARNOLD (nee KENNEDY)

I am trying to find details of my g.grandfather. Michael Corr born in County Down 1839, His father was also called Michael, occupation - Farmer. It appears that he came to Oldham, Lancashire, England on his own and left his family back in Ireland. He was married in 1865 in Lancashire, The marriage certificate shows him as age 21yrs. Which means he could have been born in 1844. The family are of catholic religion. I have tried proni without success.

Thanks in advance

Looking for information on the COWANs who may have been from Dumfries and Galloway before settling in Ulster during the Plantation -- Co. I am researching the family history of my husband Malcolm COWAN His great grand father was James COWAN born c1827 in Co Down . He married Mary Ansdale -born c1827- also in Co Down. They had 3 children(at least) -Samuel, Sarah and Margaret who were born in Co Down and 3 children - Isabella, David and Joseph -born in Grindon - Co Durham. It appears the family moved to England around 1862-64. Malcolm is descended from Joseph Cowan. Any help you can offer with the Cowans of Co Down would be gratefully received!  Contact Lynda at

I am looking for information on my gggrandmother born abt 1856 (she is in the 1901 census as 45yrs).  Speaking to my aunts she is said to have come from Co. Down possibly Downpatrick. Although in the census her birth place is Belfast would it be acceptable that someone would put the wrong birth location down?  The aunts haven't given me a bum steer yet, so I thought I would try out this site. All I know about her is she married Robert Cragg ( not to be mixed up with Robert and Catherine from the IGI in Blackpool Lancashire)  and she died in 1928 in Belfast.

Thank you for your time, and sorry to waste it if she is from Belfast.

Never discount anything eh?   Best Wishes  Pat

Hello, I am searching for information on my husband's great grandmother, Agnes Crossen.  The family bible tells us that Agnes Crossen was born in Comber, County Down, Ireland on May 25, 1840.  Sometime between 1840 and 1866 she immigrated to Fairmont Ontario, Canada.  On January 2, 1866 she married William Emerson.  In approximately 1892, they with several children emigrated to Clare County, Michigan, U.S.A.
I would greatly appreciate any information anyone can give me about Grandma Agnes Emerson.  Did her whole family move to Canada or did she come over alone?
Thanks so much.

My John Kelly/Kelley, b 1809-10, married twice, 1st to Mary Crozier +/-1840 and 2nd to an Eliza or Elizabeth sometime between 1847 and 1851.
John, a seaman, said he was born in Bangor as was his son John R. Kelley.
His daughter Martha was supposedly born in Belfast. His first wife Mary Crozier was buried in the Bangor Abbey Graveyard with her parents James and Jane Crozier.
What I would love to find is who John Kelley's parents were and when and where he married Mary Crozier. His parents were linen weavers and also lived in Bangor Parish. They were Presbyterians.
I would also love to find out where James Crozier, b. 1781, was born and who his parents were....and where he married his bride Jane. He was a Sergeant Major in the Royal South Down Militia. Contact Carole at
