ESTATE PAPERS OF THE TREVOR FAMILY
1607-1900
TITLE DEEDS AND LEASES
DROMARA TOWNLANDS OF DRIN, DREE, GRANSHA AND CROSSGAR

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) is the custodian for a large body of personal papers belonging to the Estate of the Trevor Family.  Of particular interest to researchers of Dromara Parish in County Down, is the collection of the original title deeds and leases (and a few wills) for tenants in the townlands of Drin, Dree, Gransha and Crossgar.  (NOTE:  The referenced Crossgar is a townland in Dromara Parish, not Crossgar the Village in another Parish.) The most numerous documents are the original leases that normally contain the name of the tenant, his occupation and residence as well as his signature.  The leases often mention the name and age of some of the leaseholder’s children as their lifetimes sometimes measure the duration of the lease.
The following table is a transcription of the PRONI catalogue that lists the documents in PRONI Collection D/778.  Only the documents relevant to the Dromara townlands of Drin, Dree, Gransha and Crossgar are included in the table.  A second table is included for PRONI Collection D/1954 which hold different, but similar, leases of the same estate.
Copies of the leases are available from the PRONI for a nominal fee covering copying and postage.  Normally the PRONI would be able to identify a document by the PRONI ID Number, Record Date and Name. The leases are pre-printed templates of such a size that each lease will result in several copy pages that would need to be fitted together to reconstruct the document.
A third table is included with relevant maps PRONI Collection D1954 MAPS for these four townlands in Dromara Parish.  Copies of the maps are also available from PRONI.  The cost of copies will vary depending on the size of the map.  It would be wise to contact the PRONI first for an estimate.
The website and email address for PRONI was last seen at:
