The Quinn family of "Springfield" No information is known about the origins of the Kilkeel branch of the Quinn family. It is suspected that they made their way from the east of Ireland, settling first in Dundalk, Co. Louth before moving north. By the 18th and 19th century several branches of Quinn were established in the Kingdom of Mourne, with geographical connections to Aughrim, Aughnaloopy, Drumcro, and Leitrim townlands. These townlands border each other and the family may have had land that traversed more than one townland. There is circumstantial evidence such as the naming pattern of the children that would indicate that the mother of the branch of Quinns discussed in this document was from the Hamilton family. Interestingly this branch of the Hamilton family was of the Roman Catholic faith which is unusual in Mourne.
