Mourne Granite

Granite was quarried in the Mourne Mountains for many years and shipped all round the world. It was used to make paving stones in many cities including London and New York.  Mourne granite is also being used to make the base of the 9/11 memorial in New York.

Mourne Observer, 15 February 2006: Granite from Mourne, Northern Ireland, is set to feature in the New York memorial garden for British victims of the 9/11 terror attacks.
