ABSCONDED FROM MILITARY SERVICE DURING 1828 - 1840

The information was originally recorded by the English and it is in places very phonetic to read.
The British Army were involved in numerous campaigns around the world during the period before 1828 and well after 1840 and many of the soldiers elected to settle in the areas that their Regiment happened to be serving in when their time of service expired.  One of the reasons for this might be because they meet a local girl and decided to abscond with her.  There's probably a number of other reasons why soldiers absconded from there units and a few of those might be the poor conditions and pay they had to endure away from home, or it was simply a case of home sickness that they suffered. 

Offences under the British Army Act, which resulted in a court martial with a sentence to be shot at dawn included alleged acts of cowardice, desertion, sleeping at post, casting away arms and disobedience.
