Patrick Samon was born in Edgeworthstown, Longford in 1835 and was the son of 
Thomas Samon and Anne Ginty.  He was in the Royal Irish Constabulary before 
coming to Australia in 1857.  He was in the Victorian Polce Force before 
becoming a warder at Pentridge Gaol and then Ballarat where he remained until 
he retired.  He died in Ballarat in 1918. He married Catherine Donnelly in 
1860 in Melbourne.
