All soccer followers were sorry to hear of the death last week of John 
("Fatty") Kavanagh, a well-known player in the early days of the F.A.I., or the 
then Free State League. He was left full-back on the St. James's Gate Team that 
won the Cup in 1921-22. He also played with Bendigo, and was on the first Irish 
Junior team to beat Scotland in Glasgow in March 1921.
