St Augustine's Church

1. St Augustine's takes its name from the Augustinian monastery which was
located here from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century. The current church is
relatively modern, but there has been an evangelical presence on this site for
some 1,400 years. It is thought that this may actually be the site of the Dub
Regles or Black Church founded by St Columba in the 6th century.

2. Next to the railing, the grave of the Rev. William McClure who was the
minister of the First Presbyterian Church for 49 years until his death in 1874.
The First Presbyterian Church, just a short distance from St Augustine's, does
not have a graveyard.
