To find the graveyard, take the A2 Limavady Road from Derry, turn left off the dual carriageway (Judges Road), following the signs for City of Derry Rugby Club and Oaks Fishery. Just before the fishery you'll find the graveyard on your right. BOYCE Sacred to the Memory of William Boyce Who Departed This Life 9th January 1875. Also His Wife Jane Boyce Who Departed This Life 4th January 1870. Also His Son Who Departed This Life 2nd March 1874. Also His Daughter Mary Ann Boyce Who Departed This Life 20th December 1880. Joseph Boyce Who Departed This Life ?? December 1901 Aged 75 Years. Elizabeth Boyce Who Departed This Life 25th February 1897 Aged 60 Years. BOND Sacred To The Memory of John Bond Esq. of Pennyburn Who Died 12th January 1849 Aged 46 Years. GILFILLAN The two headstones above are immediately on you right as you enter the graveyard. The one furthest from you has the following inscription : Here lie the remains of Alexander Gilfillan Surgeon R.N. who departed this life at Gorty Cross 27th March 1838 aged 45 years. He had been surgeon in H.M. Ship Trent in Sir John Franklin's First Arctic Expedition. Also the remains of his father Joseph Gilfillan of Gorty Cross who died on the same day 27th March 1838 aged 81 years. Also his son Joseph who died in January 1836 aged 3 years and 4 months. Also of Eliza, wife of Alexander Gilfillan who died at Bowdon Cheshire February 21st 1897 aged 88 years. HEGARTY Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of his Saints Psalm 116th 15th verse. Here leith the remains of Anne Hegarty Who departed this life Nov 7th 1843. She by Grave was enabled, To embrace the doctrine of GOD her Saviour In all things. And Died, as she lived, trusting alone in the Merits of her REDEEMER for SALVATION. This stone erected to her memory By her grateful and attached Friend, Mary Bond. Absent from the body, present with the LORD 2nd Cor 5:8. KNOX In Loving Memory of our Dear Father James Knox Who Died 26th Sept 1936. Also Our Dear Mother Margaret Knox Who Died 8th March 1938. And their Daughter Mary Who Died 19th November 1907. Also their three children, John, Joseph and Eileen, Who Died in Infancy. LYNCH The memorial is to James LYNCH and family James Lynch of Maydown who died on the 20th January 1852 , aged 61, and his wife, Jane Lynch who died on the 21st April 1869, aged 76 years, also his sons William Getty Lynch who died on the 27th December 1857, aged 29 years Robert John Lynch who died on the 20th March 1865, aged 42 years Before visiting the graveyard I'd been told that there were Getty ancestors buried there so I can only assume that this is their grave.
