Robberies, murders, burnings, and every species of outrage, have
again commenced in the South ! Even our own neighbourhood of Carlow
is not perfectly free from the spoilations of midnight ruffians:
there is every prospect of a worse winter than we had last year,
from the increased distress of the middle orders and the increased
depravity of the lower classes of Society. - Such is the State of
Ireland. A few nights ago there was a horse rode almost to death, by
some of the express boys, in the Barony of Rathvilly. On the same
night a tongue was cut out of a Cow, belonging to a Farmer in that
neighbourhood- yet this Barony is paying a Police !
We have the pleasure to announce the arrival of Sir Ulysses B.
Burgh, in Carlow : he would have been here two months sooner, were
it not for the indisposition of his lady, who we are happy to find,
is quite restored to health.
Darby Maher of Kylethogh has requested that we may not mention
his name any more , in our Tithe Reports, lest he should be brought
under the censure of the church, for a supposed opposition to its
interests. We shall, of course , comply with Mr Mahers request; for
we believe him to be a very honest man.
