Eucharistic Congress 1932

Source Reference: Carlow in old picture postcards Vol 3 by Michael Purcell

Every street in Ireland was decorated in 1929 for the 100th anniversary of Catholic Emancipation and again in 1932 for the Eucharistic Congress. Unless a picture is dated it is difficult to know which occasion is being celebrated. I got this picture from my aunt, Nan Phelan of Bridewell Lane. She told me the altar was erected for the 1932 congress.

Pictured here, left to right, are: Florrie Hayden, Nan Fitzgerald, Granny Hay-den. Moll Kehoe with baby Mamie, Mick Kehoe with baby Neddy, Mary Hogan with baby Tom, Mrs. Carey with baby Charlie, Molly Tobin, Paddy Tobin and G. Nolan. Only seven of the eight children in front are named (not in order): M. Kehoe, P Phelan, B. Conkling. L. Nolan, J. Begley, W Geoghegan, J. Hayden.
